Bigi & Walsh, the People’s Advocate, has been an association for approximately 12 years. Bigi first opened a law office in Charleroi in March of 1965 and offers its clients a type of specialized legal services, concentrating primarily on personal injury, wrongful death and product liability cases. Mr. Walsh handles all criminal defense and presently is the solicitor for Children and Youth Services in Washington County. Bigi & Walsh also handles estates and has a paralegal doing real estate closings.
In addition to many of the professional organizations of which the firm is a member, Bigi is a member of the prestigious MILLION DOLLAR ADVOCATES FORUM, limited to select attorneys who have achieved million dollar settlements and/or verdicts. This is a national organization having approximately 3,500 members.
Although the firm is primarily headquartered in Washington County at 337 Fallowfield Avenue in Charleroi, it does substantial work in Allegheny, Westmoreland and Fayette Counties.
The firm is solicitor for several municipalities, and Bigi has served as District Attorney of Washington County, Washington County Solicitor and Solicitor for the, then, Washington County Controller, Frank R. Mascara.
Bigi has enhanced his legal acumen in the personal injury field by obtaining a certification in civil litigation by the National Board of Trial Advocacy, an agency approved by the Supreme Court of Pennsylvania. To achieve this certification, Bigi had to produce evidence of jury verdicts, recommendation from attorneys he opposed in court, and of judges before whom he has tried cases. Also required, was an eight hour examination in Harrisburg. Bigi is certified by the Board every five years.
The firm offers a very narrow and concentrated practice availing themselves of the many seminars offered in their particular field. Said Bigi, "It is a constant process of education, notwithstanding my forty years of practice." Said Walsh, "The law is a jealous mistress," and an attorney must devote 100 percent to the practice, and constantly must keep up to date on the ever changing law.
Bigi believes that the role of an attorney is not confined to the office or courtroom, but it is very important to be involved in community activities, as well as the church. In this respect, Bigi has long been involved in Boy Scouts of America, Veterans Affairs, and has served in various capacities for fund raising events. The law firm has been a member of the Greater Charleroi and Mon Valley Regional Chamber of Commerce for 45 years.
Like many attorneys, Bigi and Walsh gave up the opportunity to practice law in larger cities or in perhaps more attractive venues in order to return to the Mon Valley where both were raised. Bigi was raised in Charleroi and Walsh in Donora. Both believe that they made the right choice in "coming back home," and express their appreciation for those people that have had the confidence in them to retain them as their attorney.
